Jeju and the southern coast to see heavy rain through the 2nd due to typhoon impact

The Korea Meteorological Administration said on the 1st that heavy rain would continue through the 2nd in Jeju and the southern regions due to Typhoon No. 6, 'Jangmi,' which is moving northward over the sea southwest of Okinawa, Japan. It explained that this rain was not because the typhoon itself directly made landfall on the Korean Peninsula, but because a rain cloud band developed as hot, humid water vapor drawn in from around the typhoon collided with dry air. Expected precipitation is 2060㎜ along the southern coast and 3080㎜ in Jeju Island, while in some areas it could exceed 80㎜ and 150㎜ or more in the mountainous areas of Jeju, respectively. In particular, between the night of the 1st and the morning of the 2nd, there is a possibility of heavy rain of around 2030㎜ per hour, centered on Jeju Island and the southern coast. As the typhoon moves into the sea south of Japan, the rain is expected to gradually weaken from the afternoon of the 2nd. However, strong winds and high waves are expected in the southern sea, and swell waves may also reach Jeju Island and the southern coast, so caution is needed to prevent marine safety accidents. After the rain stops, severe heat will return, mainly in the Seoul metropolitan area, but showers are expected to pass across the country around the 4th, and temperatures are likely to drop to around normal levels.
