Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education audit uncovers copy-paste in student records and poor management of school violence records
As a result of an audit by the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education, inadequate completion of school life records and problems with managing school violence records were revealed. Cases of repeated entries and arbitrary deletion were also confirmed. Check the details and audit findings.
The Board of Audit and Inspection uncovered in its regular audit of the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education that some high schools had poorly managed the preparation of school records and records related to school violence. As a result of the audit, it was confirmed in many cases that teachers had written the same detailed special remarks for multiple students, even though they should have differed for each student.
The Board of Audit and Inspection stated that, as a result of inspecting 239 high schools in Seoul from 2021 to 2024, there were 1,106 cases in which 803 teachers repeatedly entered the same content for 51 or more students. There were also cases in which they used the previous year's wording as is, or used the same expressions for students with different grade levels and educational content.
The management of records related to school violence was also found to be lax. Some schools did not leave counseling records or grounds for measures, and cases were also confirmed in which student record entries that had not yet reached their retention period were arbitrarily deleted. The Board of Audit and Inspection pointed out that the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education did not sufficiently inspect these issues.
