Jung Jinseok, former Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, who had declared his candidacy for the byelection for National Assembly seats in Gongju, Buyeo, and Cheongyang, South Chungcheong Province, said he would withdraw his application to become the People Power Party candidate.
On the 7th, Jung, the former deputy speaker, said via social media that he had conveyed to the party's nomination committee chair his intention to abide by the party's decision, and explained that if his candidacy became a burden on the party's unity or election momentum, he would step aside.
He said he would return as an ordinary party member and serve from the sidelines, and added that if they want to check the ruling of the Democratic Party, they should unite behind the People Power Party.
