On July 24, Chinese authorities announced that Fang Xinghai, former member of the Party Committee and vice chairman of the China Securities Regulatory Commission, is suspected of serious violations of discipline and law and is currently under disciplinary review and supervisory investigation by the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Supervisory Commission. Publicly available information shows that Fang Xinghai was born in Yueqing, Zhejiang, holds a PhD in economics, and previously worked at the Shanghai Stock Exchange, in Shanghai's financial system, and in central financial departments. He was appointed vice chairman and Party Committee member of the China Securities Regulatory Commission in October 2015. According to the announcement, Fang Xinghai stepped down from the relevant positions in 2024.
