Ministry of Foreign Affairs: We Hope the Philippine Side Will Be Consistent in Words and Deeds and Strictly Restrain the Behavior of Its Officials

China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on June 2 that it hopes the Philippine side will act consistently in words and deeds on issues involving China, and strictly rein in the remarks and actions of relevant officials to avoid further affecting bilateral relations. According to reports, Philippine Defense Secretary Teodoro said at the ShangriLa Dialogue that the Philippines faces a "serious threat" from China in territorial and political terms. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning responded at a regular press briefing that day, saying such remarks have been made repeatedly and have seriously damaged ChinaPhilippines relations and mutual trust, and also do not serve the interests of the Philippine state and people. Mao Ning also said that Philippine leaders have publicly expressed on multiple occasions their willingness to properly handle differences with China and promote a thaw in relations. China hopes the Philippine side will implement these statements and avoid individual officials from continuing to make remarks that undermine bilateral stability.
