Chief Justice Cho Hee-dae accepts the resignation of National Election Commission Chair Roh Tae-ak

Supreme Court Chief Justice Cho Heedae accepted the resignation of National Election Commission Chair Noh Taeak in connection with the shortage of ballot papers that occurred in the June 3 local elections. According to the legal community, on the 8th, Chief Justice Cho revoked the nomination of Noh as chair of the National Election Commission and notified the NEC of this. Noh had previously announced in a public apology on the 5th that he would take responsibility and step down. The National Election Commission is composed of nine members recommended by the president, the National Assembly, and the chief justice of the Supreme Court, and by custom, the chair has been a Supreme Court justice. Chief Justice Cho had nominated Supreme Court Justice Cheon Daeyeop as Noh's successor in March, but because the confirmation hearing process did not proceed, Noh continued in the position even after the justice retired from the Supreme Court.
