LG Uplus AI voice phishing blocking quickly finds suspicious numbers and passes them to the police With a 99% detection rate, block the network within 10 minutes and even prevent smishing and fake apps

LG Uplus is operating a response system that uses artificial intelligence (AI) to identify phone numbers suspected of being used for voice phishing and forward them to the police. On the 15th, the company explained at its control center in Magok, Gangseogu, Seoul, that it is comprehensively analyzing subscription history, call and text patterns, web and app access records, and whether the number has been used overseas to filter out suspicious numbers. Numbers filtered by this system are sent to the police, leading to network blocking. According to the company, from January to August this year, more than 11,700 lines used for voice phishing were blocked in real time, and it takes less than 10 minutes from when a suspicious number is reported until it is actually blocked. It said the detection accuracy is over 99%. Since forming a voice phishing response task force (TF) in 2024, LG Uplus has expanded its tracking scope to include malicious web and apps, criminal servers, infected customers, and new types of scams. For customers confirmed to be potentially infected, it sends guidance on resetting their devices and visiting a police station via KakaoTalk alert messages, and if necessary, employees also visit the site in person. Recently, it has also been addressing smishing through SNS, fake MTS, and impersonationstyle workfromhome parttime job pages, in addition to text messages.
