Jeong Cheong-rae holds a slight lead in Chungcheong and the Busan-Ulsan-Gyeongnam region in the first week of the Democratic Party convention

In the Democratic Party convention primary, Jeong Cheong-rae edged out Kim Min-seok by a narrow margin From the remaining regional primaries to the public opinion poll, quickly check where the party leadership race is headed

In the Democratic Party of Korea's Aug. 17 national convention leadership race, Rep. Jeong Cheongrae narrowly surpassed Rep. Kim Minseok in the combined results of the Chungcheong region and BusanUlsanGyeongnam touring primaries. The two candidates are continuing a close race, each having split the first week of regional primaries with one win and one loss. In the Chungcheong region primary, Rep. Kim Minseok led Rep. Jeong by 0.44 percentage points, and in the subsequent BusanUlsanGyeongnam primary, Rep. Jeong took first place with 46.65%. So far, the combined vote shares stand at 45.51% for Rep. Jeong and 44.52% for Rep. Kim, with the vote margin at just 1,211 votes. The Democratic Party plans to continue its touring primaries in the following order: JejuIncheon, GangwonDaeguGyeongbuk, JeonnamGwangjuJeonbuk, and GyeonggiSeoul. The final result will be announced at the Aug. 17 national convention, after reflecting the regional primaries as well as delegate and public opinion polls.
