Heilongjiang’s Qitaihe reported on August 5 that in recent years, the city has made the治理 of historical legacy mines an important task in the transformation of resourcebased cities, and has continuously advanced ecological restoration. So far, the city has completed a cumulative restoration area of 3,697.16 hectares, covering multiple types including waste rock piles, abandoned industrial sites, relocationandreconstruction vacant land, damaged mountain areas, and abandoned mines.
During the restoration process, Qitaihe has improved the ecological environment through measures such as planting trees and grass, planting trees and shrubs, and restoring wetlands. Regional biodiversity has increased significantly, damaged land has gradually been brought back into use, the city’s ecological foundation has been steadily strengthened, and residents’ living environment has improved accordingly.
At the same time, the local government has also advanced mine reclamation and qualityupgrading projects, converting some previously severely damaged mining land into highquality black soil farmland. After clearing waste rock, rebuilding the soil, and improving soil fertility, these plots are now suitable for corn and soybean rotation planting, and, with support from proagriculture policies, have formed a transformation path that combines ecological restoration, farmland expansion, and increased income for the public.
