China's Ministry of National Defense Criticizes Japan's Nuclear Policy Remarks

On July 30, China's Ministry of National Defense responded at a regular press briefing to recent remarks by Japan's Defense Minister regarding nuclear weapons policy, saying that Japan's efforts to promote discussion of related issues and try to break through the “Three NonNuclear Principles” are provocative and dangerous.
Spokesperson Jiang Bin said that if Japan is testing public opinion and paving the way for ambitions to possess nuclear weapons, it will undermine the international nuclear nonproliferation regime and also affect the postWorld War II international order. He also noted that Japan, as a country on the nuclear threshold, has long retained a large amount of separated plutonium, raising outside concerns about its ability to make a nuclear breakthrough.
When speaking about the joint naval patrol by China and Russia, Jiang Bin said the relevant waters are high seas, and Japan's claims regarding Okinotorishima Reef and the exclusive economic zone lack basis. China's relevant actions comply with international law and international practice.
