Ministry of Foreign Affairs expresses regret over U.S. House report related to Coupang

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed regret over the report related to Coupang released by the U.S. House Judiciary Committee. Ministry spokesperson Park Il said at a regular briefing on the 2nd that the report reflects only Coupang's claims, and that the claim that the South Korean government is discriminating against or unfairly regulating Coupang is not true. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs explained that investigations and measures regarding Coupang are being carried out lawfully and in a nondiscriminatory manner in accordance with domestic law. It also added that it has continued to convey to the U.S. Congress and administration its position that it is ensuring a fair business environment regardless of nationality. The U.S. House Judiciary Committee recently released a report claiming that South Korea discriminates against American companies and focused heavily on the Coupang case. The report also included claims that the South Korean government's regulations and investigative methods weaken the competitiveness of U.S. companies. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that it will continue to communicate with both sides of the KoreaU.S. relationship, deliver accurate information, and consult to ensure that related discussions do not affect other pending issues between the two countries.
