A worker in his 40s who was performing manhole inspection work at a pumping station dredging site in Jinhaegu, Changwonsi, Gyeongnam, died two days later after being treated following a suffocation accident.
According to the police and the Changwon Branch of the Ministry of Employment and Labor, on the morning of the 22nd, a man in his 40s, identified as A, and a man in his 50s, identified as B, collapsed one after the other during work and were taken to the hospital. A ultimately died on the afternoon of the 24th, while B is reported to be in a condition that is not lifethreatening.
The authorities said they confirmed that the two did not wear airsupplied masks, which are protective gear, when entering the inside of the manhole, and are investigating whether the safety rules for confinedspace work were properly followed and how the accident occurred.
