Yunnan Hosts the Global Tropical Biodiversity Conservation Conference Again

The 62nd Annual Meeting of the Association for Tropical Biology and Conservation (ATBC) was recently held in Jinghong, Xishuangbanna, Yunnan. More than 700 scientists, conservation practitioners, and young scholars from over 60 countries and regions around the world attended the conference to jointly discuss tropical biodiversity conservation and the sustainable development of ecosystems. This marks the ATBC annual meeting returning to Yunnan after 20 years. The organizers and experts at the meeting said that Yunnan not only has rich tropical biological resources, but has also continued to improve in scientific research capacity, international cooperation, and ecological conservation practices, which is why it has once again become the venue for the conference. The report noted that Xishuangbanna is located on China's southwestern border and borders Laos and Myanmar. It has relatively intact tropical ecosystems and a variety of rare and endangered species. In recent years, the local area has promoted the coordinated advancement of ecological conservation and green development through measures such as the ecological conservation red line, ecological restoration, underforest economy, ecotourism, and crossborder joint conservation.
