KEPCO KPS urges normalization amid delay in executive appointments

Delay in KEPCO KPS executive appointments raises concerns over gaps in power plant maintenance and support for nuclear power exports Check out the background behind Rep. Choi Ki-sang's call for swift normalization and the issues surrounding the delayed appointments

Democratic Party lawmaker Choi Kisang urged the prompt normalization of KEPCO KPS, saying that the selection of its management leadership is being delayed. KEPCO KPS is a stateowned enterprise responsible for maintaining powergeneration facilities and supporting nuclear power plant exports, and the terms of all four standing directors, including the president, have expired. However, the selection of the president has been prolonged due to overlapping legal disputes and a rerecruitment process, and the selection of the remaining standing directors is also being delayed. Lawmaker Choi said that the judicial process related to the selection of the president should be respected, but there is no reason to delay the selection of the other standing directors as well. He emphasized that the system under which executives whose terms have expired remain in office until their successors are appointed is meant to prevent a management vacuum, and that a management structure capable of responding to onsite safety and major management issues is needed.
