Typhoon “Hongxia” Affects Fujian and Guangdong; the Ministry of Natural Resources Has Activated a Level IV Emergency Response for Marine Disasters

Affected by this year’s No. 12 typhoon “Hongxia,” the Ministry of Natural Resources activated a Level IV emergency response for marine disasters in Fujian and Guangdong at 16:00 on July 24. According to the forecast, from July 25 to 27, a typhoon storm surge and hazardous wave event may occur along the coast from Xiamen, Fujian to Jiangmen, Guangdong. The National Marine Environmental Forecasting Center has issued blue alerts for storm surge and yellow alerts for waves. The Ministry of Natural Resources requires the relevant competent departments and related operational units in Fujian and Guangdong to strengthen emergency monitoring, consultation and assessment, forecasting and warning, and disaster investigation and evaluation. Relevant departments remind the public that as the typhoon continues to approach the coast, storm surges and waves along the southeastern coast may intensify further. Vessels sailing and operating in the relevant sea areas should take precautions against tides and waves, and lowlying coastal areas should also make preparations in advance to guard against seawater backflow.
