The Jingdezhen Handcrafted Porcelain Industry Remains Have Been Inscribed on the World Heritage List

At the 48th session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee held in Busan, South Korea, on the 25th, a resolution was adopted to inscribe the “Jingdezhen Handmade Porcelain Industrial Heritage” on the World Heritage List. With this, the total number of World Heritage sites in China has risen to 61. The “Jingdezhen Handmade Porcelain Industrial Heritage” is located in northeastern Jiangxi Province. It consists of the ceramic production center in the town area, the ancient Hutian kiln site, the Gaoling porcelain clay mine site, the Changling porcelain stone mine site, and the firewood fuel production area in Jiaotan kiln, among other components, comprising 45 heritage locations in total, with the combined area of the heritage zone and buffer zone covering approximately 7,524.7 hectares. Reports note that Jingdezhen has been renowned for its porcelain industry for a thousand years. The heritage not only presents the complete system from raw material extraction and fuel supply to production and transport trade, but also reflects the development lineage of China's traditional porcelainmaking techniques. In recent years, local authorities have continued to advance the protection of old kiln sites, old lanes, and old workshops, and through relighting, restoration, and exhibition, they have enabled traditional ceramic craftsmanship to continue in modern urban life.
