National Election Commission Confirms Counting Error in 2024 General Election... Correction Put on Hold
The National Election Commission belatedly corrected a vote-counting error in Suwon Jeong, stemming from an input mistake. From a miscount of invalid votes to an error in the superintendent of education election, check the key issues.
It was belatedly confirmed that the National Election Commission had incorrectly entered the votecounting results for the Suwonjeong constituency in the 2024 22nd National Assembly election. At the time, in Gyeonggi's Suwonjeong district, Democratic Party candidate Kim Junhyeok had won ahead of People Power Party candidate Lee Soojung, but two months later the NEC informed the candidates that the vote totals had been entered incorrectly.
According to the corrected figures, the number of invalid ballots had been greatly miscounted compared with the actual number, and some votes had been mistakenly reflected as invalid ballots. The NEC explained that this was not the final votecounting result, but an erroneous entry of the results processed by the sorting machine.
However, the NEC said that since an election invalidation lawsuit for the constituency is pending before the Supreme Court, it will correct the results after the lawsuit is concluded. On the same day, an input error during the votecounting process in the Jeonbuk Superintendent of Education election also came to light belatedly, and criticism over poor election management is continuing.
