On the 19th, the “919 Climate Justice March” was held on Sejongdaero near City Hall Station in Seoul. About 20,000 people, including environmental, labor, and religious groups as well as citizens, took part and called for climate crisis response and a just transition.
Participants criticized the government’s socalled “three major mega projects” centered on semiconductors and AI data centers, saying they could increase greenhouse gas emissions and deepen inequality. At the scene, reused signs and banners appeared, and a variety of voices took the stage, including youth, farmers, migrant workers, and homeless people.
The march started at Sungnyemun and continued past City Hall Station, Gwanghwamun Station, Jonggak Station, and the Angukdong intersection, ending in front of Gyeongbokgung Palace. Participants concluded by chanting together on various issues such as agriculture and labor, the energy transition, ending war, and an ecological transition.
