Korea-Belgium Summit Agrees to Expand Cooperation in Batteries and Energy

President Lee Jaemyung held a summit with Prime Minister Bart De Wever in Belgium, the first country on his European tour, and agreed to strengthen cooperation in the fields of battery materials and energy. The two sides also agreed to support mutual investment between companies in both countries and expand cooperation in strategic industries. At this meeting, the two countries also signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation between small and mediumsized enterprises and startups. The aim is to use Korea and Belgium as hubs for entering Europe and Asia and to promote shared growth among companies. President Lee introduced that Korean researchers and local researchers are cooperating in the semiconductor field at IMEC, a Belgian research institute, and said he looks forward to expanding research cooperation. The two countries also decided to jointly pursue measures to support the establishment of a Korean studies professorship, create graduate programs, and resume direct flight routes.
