A Centuries-Old Sophora Tree at the Zunyi Conference Memorial Hall Bears Witness to History
The ancient sophora tree at the Zunyi Conference Memorial Hall bears witness to history, carrying the spirit of the Long March and the symbolism of victory Visit this "living cultural relic" next to the Zunyi Conference site and feel the red memories
Inside the Zunyi Conference Memorial Hall stands a centuryold locust tree, which has been called the only “living relic” at the site because it witnessed the 1935 Zunyi Conference. Located beside the conference site in Zunyi, Guizhou, the tree is now lush with foliage and has become a landmark where visitors often stop to take photos.
According to reports, this locust tree was still only a sapling when the Zunyi Conference was held. Later, as its old and new branches grew upward, it formed a natural “V” shape, giving it the meaning of “victory.” Local residents affectionately call it the “Victory Tree,” placing their hopes for victory and progress in it.
To protect this ancient tree, the forestry department of Honghuagang District, Zunyi City, has registered and documented it and implemented routine patrols, carrying out regular health inspections, drought relief and cooling measures, removal of diseased and dead branches, and pest and lightning protection. The memorial hall said that this tree is not only a witness to history, but also carries on the spirit of the Red Army's Long March.
