Cambodian Environment Minister Says China Plays an Active Role in Global Ocean Governance

Cambodian Minister of Environment Yang Sophalai recently said in a written exclusive interview with Xinhua that China has played a positive role in global ocean governance and international marine conservation cooperation, and has demonstrated strong leadership in related fields. Yang Sophalai pointed out that the oceans are currently facing multiple challenges such as climate change, plastic pollution, biodiversity loss, overfishing, and coastal ecosystem degradation, and countries need to strengthen cooperation. He believes that China’s experience in coastal ecosystem restoration, marine pollution control, marine protected area construction, and blue economy development provides a reference for other countries, including developing countries. He also mentioned that Cambodia and China have maintained a steadily expanding cooperative relationship in marine ecological protection and sustainable ocean management, with the two sides continuously deepening cooperation through agreements, technical exchanges, joint scientific research, and regional platforms. Yang Sophalai said that in the future, countries should strengthen sciencebased decisionmaking, pollution prevention and control, ecological restoration, as well as financing and technical support, on the basis of multilateralism and shared responsibility.
