25th Anniversary of the Establishment of the SCO: Wang Yi Emphasizes Carrying Forward the Shanghai Spirit and Promoting Peaceful Development Focusing on the Tianjin and Bishkek Summits, Working Together to Improve Global Governance and Expand Cooperation
On June 15, Wang Yi, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Minister of Foreign Affairs, attended the reception commemorating the 25th anniversary of the founding of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in Beijing and delivered a speech.
Wang Yi said that over the past 25 years, member states of the SCO have carried out solidarity and cooperation around the "Shanghai Spirit," forming a new model of regional cooperation centered on mutual trust, mutual benefit, equality, consultation, respect for diverse civilizations, and the pursuit of common development, while also exploring ways to build a new type of international relations.
He noted that as the international situation is undergoing increasingly complex and rapid changes, the SCO should continue to promote the "Shanghai Spirit," improve global governance, safeguard peace and stability, promote sustainable development, and strengthen peopletopeople exchanges and goodneighborly and friendly cooperation. Wang Yi also mentioned that, under the strategic guidance of the leaders of member states, the Tianjin Summit has drawn up a blueprint for the SCO's development over the next 10 years, and he looks forward to the Bishkek Summit later this year further building consensus and promoting regional countries to join hands in achieving peace, development, and prosperity.
SCO SecretaryGeneral Yermekbayev said that after 25 years of development, the SCO has become one of the largest transregional international organizations, its cooperation directions have become clearer, and international attention to it continues to rise. About 200 diplomats stationed in China and representatives of international organizations in China from SCOrelated countries attended the reception.
