Lee Minwoo of the group Shinhwa has partially won a damages lawsuit he filed against a television writer. The Civil Division 15 of the Seoul Central District Court ruled that she must pay 2.45559 billion won, the full amount of the damages.
This lawsuit was filed in connection with allegations that writer A, after approaching Lee Minwoo by leveraging connections among senior prosecutors, defrauded him of money and valuables. A had previously been sentenced in a criminal trial to seven years in prison and an order to forfeit assets on fraud charges, which was finalized.
The court recognized the same amount as the fraud damages established in the criminal trial as civil damages. Lee Minwoo has since been pursuing a separate civil lawsuit against A.
