Jang Donghyuk, the leader of the People Power Party, did not attend the National Assembly’s constitutional anniversary ceremony on the 17th and instead visited the rally site at Olympic Park in Songpagu, Seoul. At the site, Rep. Jang chanted slogans calling for election fraud investigations and election system reform, and apologized for the party’s inadequate response.
He said, “I am sorry that our politics has failed to offer a solution for more than 40 days,” and then announced that he would push for reform of the National Election Commission and an overhaul of the election system. He also took part in an event to make handheld signs for rally participants, along with party leadership and some lawmakers.
The Democratic Party criticized Jang’s move, saying he ignored the meaning of Constitution Day and attended a conspiracytheory rally. The party argued that the opposition leadership should return to the National Assembly and take part in discussions on the special counsel bill.
