The National Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters has activated a Level IV emergency response for flood control in Hunan and Yunnan

The Office of the National Flood Control Headquarters and the Ministry of Emergency Management convened a consultation on June 30 with several departments to assess the development trend of recent heavy rainfall and to deploy flood control work in key areas. At 18:00 that day, the National Flood Control Headquarters activated a Level IV emergency response for flood control in Hunan and Yunnan, while continuing to maintain the Level IV emergency response for Anhui, Jiangxi, and Guizhou. The two working groups dispatched by the headquarters are also on the front lines in Jiangxi and Guizhou to assist and guide flood control efforts. The consultation pointed out that this round of rainfall from June 29 to July 3 has a long duration, a large cumulative rainfall total, and overlaps with the areas affected by several rounds of heavy rainfall earlier, posing a relatively high risk of disasters. At present, it is also approaching the summer vacation and peak travel season, with increased population movement, making the flood control situation even more complex. The meeting required localities to implement the flood control responsibility system, strengthen monitoring, forecasting, and early warning, and pay special attention to areas that have received more rainfall earlier and where the soil is close to saturation. At the same time, they should do a good job in inspections and dispatching of key locations such as reservoirs, river channels, and tailings ponds, promptly organize the transfer and evacuation of people in dangerous areas, and improve communication support capabilities, so as to minimize disaster losses and casualties.
