On the occasion of the 90th anniversary of the victory of the Long March, a descendant of a Red Army soldier from the 34th Division who became separated in Guangyuan, Guangxi, recounted the experience of his father, Feng Wanggui. Feng Wanggui was wounded and fell behind during battles related to the Xiangjiang Campaign, and was later rescued by local villagers. After many twists and turns, he eventually settled in Guangxi. According to his son Feng Shunxi's recollection, in his later years Feng Wanggui would often stop for a long time when passing by Gujiang, looking across the river and shedding tears as he missed his comrades who sacrificed their lives back then. From the late 1940s to the 1960s, he would repeatedly tell his family about that experience and remind the younger generation not to forget their roots. Today, Feng Shunxi serves as a volunteer interpreter locally, sharing the stories of his father and the Red Army forebears with more people. He said he hopes to continue passing on the spirit of the Long March, so that this history will be remembered by future generations.
