Xi Jinping emphasizes supporting Chinese modernization with scientific and technological innovation

On the morning of July 8, the National Science and Technology Awards Conference, the 22nd Academician Assembly of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the 18th Academician Assembly of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and the 11th National Congress of the China Association for Science and Technology were held at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. Xi Jinping attended the conference and presented awards to the recipients of the State Preeminent Science and Technology Award and others. In his speech, Xi Jinping pointed out that scientific and technological innovation is an important support for advancing Chinese modernization, and that greater emphasis should be placed on selfreliant and independent scientific and technological innovation, with solid efforts made to advance basic research, breakthroughs in key core technologies, and the transformation of scientific and technological achievements. He also stressed the need to give full play to the role of scientific and technological talent, create an environment conducive to innovation and creativity, and promote the better service of scientific and technological endeavors to the overall national development.
