Police request the Ministry of Justice to suspend Mose Tan's departure... on charges of defaming President Lee Jae-myung

The police have requested that the Ministry of Justice prevent Moss Tan, a professor at Liberty University in the United States who is accused of defaming President Lee Jaemyung, from leaving the country. The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency's Cyber Investigation Unit applied on the 1st for a departure suspension, saying that Professor Tan had not complied with the summons to appear and that there was concern he might flee. A departure suspension is a measure the Ministry of Justice can take when a foreign national does not cooperate with an investigation or is deemed inappropriate to leave the country. Professor Tan is accused of defaming the president by making false statements related to him at a press conference held in Washington, D.C., in the United States last year. Although the police had previously dismissed the case, the prosecution requested a reinvestigation, saying the 피해 could be considered to have occurred in Korea. Professor Tan entered the country on the 28th of last month and has not complied with the police summons; instead, he has submitted a statement explaining his absence and an application to recuse the investigator.
