Government pushes ahead with building AI data centers in Ulsan, Donghae, and Sejong

The government has unveiled a plan to build largescale AI data centers in Ulsan, Donghae, Sejong, and other areas together with SK, GS, and Naver. Related investments will be carried out through 2029, with the total investment scale presented at around 550 trillion won. In the “Three Major Mega Projects for a Great Leap Forward in the Republic of Korea” announced on the 29th, the government said it would make AI data centers a core industry and also promote the export industrialization of parts packages combining domestic servers, networks, and semiconductors. It also presented a plan to establish a data center cluster that includes support for domestic production of AI semiconductors such as NPU and an ultralarge testbed. Along with this, it also set out a goal to create robot AI production hubs in Saemangeum and the DaeguGyeongbuk region and to secure worldclass competitiveness in the physical AI and AI robot sectors by 2030. The government explained that it would expand the industrial ecosystem through regionally distributed investment and the transition of manufacturing.
