Xi Jinping meets with Kazakhstan President Tokayev

On the afternoon of July 16, Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Kazakh President KassymJomart Tokayev at the Shanghai West Suburban Guest House in Shanghai, who was visiting China to attend the 2026 World Artificial Intelligence Conference and HighLevel Meeting on Global AI Governance. Xi Jinping said that the ChinaKazakhstan permanent comprehensive strategic partnership is operating at a high level, and that the two sides should strengthen alignment of development strategies and policies, promote cooperation in trade, energy, transport, the digital economy, and artificial intelligence, and further enhance the level of practical cooperation. He also noted that the Chinese side is ready to work with the Kazakh side to make a success of the "ChinaKazakhstan Cultural Exchange Year" and strengthen coordination and cooperation on multilateral platforms such as the United Nations, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, and the ChinaCentral Asia mechanism. Tokayev said that Kazakhstan will continue to regard relations with China as a foreign policy priority, and is willing to work with the Chinese side to implement the important consensus reached by both sides, expand cooperation in trade and economics, transport, energy, agriculture, and the digital economy, and strengthen coordination on global AI governance. After the meeting, the two heads of state jointly witnessed the signing and announcement of a number of cooperation documents covering areas such as trade and economics, transport, finance, and media.
