China and Myanmar issued a joint statement on June 17, emphasizing that they will accelerate the building of a ChinaMyanmar community with a shared future and deepen cooperation in the fields of politics, security, economy and trade, and culture and peopletopeople exchanges.
The statement noted that Myanmar President Min Aung Hlaing paid a state visit to China from June 15 to 19, during which he held talks with Chinese leaders. The two sides reached multiple common understandings on bilateral relations and regional cooperation. Both sides reaffirmed that they will continue to support each other on issues involving each other's core interests and major concerns, and stressed the importance of safeguarding national sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity.
In terms of practical cooperation, both sides agreed to advance the construction of the ChinaMyanmar Economic Corridor, continue promoting cooperation in transportation, energy, agriculture, education, health, media, and other fields, and strengthen efforts to combat crossborder crimes, security cooperation, and stability in border areas. The two sides also said they will jointly support postdisaster reconstruction, livelihood projects, and regional multilateral cooperation, and promote regional peace and development.
