On September 29, Fujian Province’s first popular science museum themed on “polar science” officially opened in Zhouning County, Ningde City. The venue, named the “Polar Science Museum,” aims to enhance the public’s interest in science and scientific literacy, especially among young people, by showcasing polar science content.
According to reports, the museum centers on topics such as Arctic and Antarctic ecology, polar geology, ecological protection, and stories from scientific expeditions, presenting the history and achievements of China’s polar research expeditions while also introducing the characteristics and changes of polar environments. A local official said the project will help make up for shortcomings in countylevel popular science resources and become an important platform for spreading the scientific spirit.
Zhouning County also proposed integrating the museum with educational tours, parentchild science outreach, and rural leisure industries to explore a path of integrated development featuring “popular science + cultural tourism + ecology.” On the day of the event, the museum also included it in the Zhouning County main venue series of activities for the 2026 National Science Popularization Month, under the theme “Technology Changes Life, Innovation Wins the Future.”
