Average Length of Stay for Households Leaving SH Long-Term Jeonse Housing: 6 Years and 9 Months

SH Long-Term Jeonse Housing departure, average stay of 6 years and 9 months Check the reasons for securing a home, winning a subscription lottery, and the issues surrounding conversion to sale.

As a result of the Kyunghyang Shinmun analyzing data from the Seoul Metropolitan Government and the Seoul Housing & Communities Corporation (SH), the average length of residence for households that moved out of SH longterm jeonse housing from 2007 through June of this year was found to be 6 years and 9 months. There were 10,929 departing households. Longterm jeonse housing is public rental housing in which residents can live for up to 20 years with a deposit lower than the market rate in the surrounding area. Looking at the reasons for departure, most were at the request of the contract holder, and many were found to have moved to other housing after winning a subscription lottery or purchasing a home. In a 2023 SH survey as well, 72.0% of respondents who left voluntarily cited securing their own home as the reason. The Seoul Metropolitan Government has maintained its position that conversion to sale is difficult even if cases of completing the first 20year residence period arise starting next year, explaining that the original contract principles and waiting demand must be taken into consideration.
