During the National Day holiday, the situational drama “Farewell” at Dongmen Ferry in Yudu, Jiangxi, was staged again, recreating the scene of the army and civilians bidding an emotional farewell before the Central Red Army set out. In the live performance, actors and audiences looked back on the history that began from the Yudu River more than 90 years ago.
In October 1934, the CPC Central Committee and the Central Military Commission led the main force of the Central Red Army and more than 86,000 others to gather in Yudu, and then cross the river to begin the Long March. At the time, local people provided boats, removed door panels and bed boards to build pontoon bridges, and hurriedly made straw sandals and gathered grain to support the Red Army’s crossing.
Today, Yudu’s revolutionary cultural tourism performances have become an important window for people to learn about the history of the Long March. Performances such as “Farewell” and “The First Crossing of the Long March” have attracted many tourists, study tour groups, and young families. Through stage storytelling and realistic settings, this history has been reunderstood in a more intuitive way.
