The Pinglu Canal officially opened to navigation on September 16, marking new changes in the Southwest region's access route to the sea. A report from CCTV News Client noted that this new route has shortened the shipping distance from Nanning Port to the sea from 827 kilometers on the old Xijiang route to 204 kilometers, and reduced sailing time from 68.9 hours to 17 hours.
Compared with the past, the new channel means cargo ships no longer need to make long detours, allowing them to travel 623 fewer kilometers and save about 51.9 hours. The report used an AIgenerated long image to show this change, emphasizing that the Pinglu Canal will open a closer sea outlet for the Southwest region.
This project is seen as important infrastructure for promoting regional logistics and improving seaoriented development capacity. After opening to navigation, it is expected to improve transportation efficiency and strengthen the connection between Guangxi and the Southwest region and the maritime transport network.
