Son Heungmin recorded two assists in the first leg of the 2026 CONCACAF Champions Cup semifinal against Toluca, leading LAFC to a 21 victory. The match was held on April 30 at BMO Stadium in Los Angeles, USA.
LAFC had been somewhat shaky in recent league matches, and key striker Denis Bouanga was also out due to suspension. Son Heungmin had recently been left out of the squad to rest after expressing dissatisfaction following a substitution, but in this match he spearheaded the team’s attack by delivering decisive passes in firsthalf and secondhalf stoppage time.
With this match, Son Heungmin recorded seven assists in this tournament alone, setting a new Champions Cup singleseason assist record. The MLS office also emphasized his contribution, saying that without Son Heungmin’s performance, the game would have ended in a draw. LAFC will aim to reach the final in the second leg away at Toluca on May 7.
