According to the Supreme People's Court of China, on July 6, the Intermediate People's Court of Changzhou, Jiangsu Province, publicly pronounced the firstinstance verdict in the case of Yang Youlin, former executive deputy director of the Administrative Committee of the Nanjing Economic and Technological Development Zone, for bribery, embezzlement, offering bribes, misappropriation of public funds, abuse of power, and money laundering. The court found that Yang Youlin took advantage of multiple positions to seek benefits for related organizations and individuals in matters such as project contracting, business operations, land transfer, and capital turnover, and illegally accepted property worth more than 2.214 billion yuan in total. The court also established that he had engaged in acts including fraudulently obtaining fiscal funds, offering bribes, misappropriating public funds, abusing power, and money laundering. The court stated that Yang Youlin's bribery amount was extremely large, the criminal circumstances were especially serious, and the social impact was extremely adverse; he should be sentenced to death in accordance with the law. The court ultimately decided to carry out the death penalty, deprive him of political rights for life, and confiscate all of his personal property. Yang Youlin stated in court that he admitted guilt and expressed remorse.
