Guo Huadong Wins the IAF Hall of Fame Award, Highlighting China’s Strength in Aerospace and Remote Sensing Innovation SDGSAT-1 is globally open and shared; click to learn how it helps sustainable development

Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and researcher at the Aerospace Information Research Institute, Guo Huadong recently received the 2026 International Astronautical Federation (IAF) "Hall of Fame" Award, in recognition of his longstanding and outstanding contributions to the fields of space science and remote sensing. The award is regarded as one of the important honors in the global space community. The report指出 that one of Guo Huadong's important awardwinning achievements was leading the development of the world's first Sustainable Development Scientific Satellite 1 (SDGSAT1) and promoting the wide application of the relevant data across UN member states. The satellite conducts observations around the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, supporting monitoring of human activities and sustainable development indicators. According to available information, SDGSAT1 data has achieved global open sharing and has been used by 116 UN member states. Related research and applications have also supported multiple United Nations reports and provided technical support for the UN 2030 Agenda and the Global Development Initiative. Guo Huadong has also participated in a number of national and international projects related to space, remote sensing, and the digital Earth, and has considerable influence in the relevant fields.
