The joint investigation headquarters of the prosecution and police, which is investigating allegations of collusion between the political and religious circles, has demanded that Lee Manhee, the chairman of the Shincheonji Church, appear for questioning. The questioning is scheduled to take place on the 4th at the Seoul High Prosecutors' Office building.
The joint investigation team believes that Chairman Lee is suspected of trying to influence the election by forcing church members to join as responsible members of the People Power Party. The investigative team has determined that more than 50,000 people joined the People Power Party between 2021 and 2023.
During the investigation, the joint team searched and seized the Shincheonji headquarters and the People Power Party's office, securing related lists, and also questioned Shincheonji executives one by one. In this summons, the team plans to also verify the circumstances behind the forced party membership enrollment, as well as allegations involving political funds and solicitation.
