80th Anniversary Review of the Tokyo Trial: Reaffirming the Postwar International Legal Verdict and Historical Justice The Chinese side emphasizes not to whitewash aggression and to jointly safeguard international order and peace
A spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs answered questions from reporters on the 80th anniversary of the opening of the Tokyo Trial, reviewing the historical background and international significance of the trial. The spokesperson said that the Tokyo Trial was conducted in accordance with the relevant arrangements after the end of World War II and the Charter of the International Military Tribunal for the Far East, and that it exposed the facts that Japanese militarism launched a war of aggression, violated international law, and committed serious crimes in multiple Asian countries.
The spokesperson pointed out that, together with the Nuremberg Trials, the Tokyo Trial established the historical and legal verdict on fascist war criminals, and that the relevant conclusions must not be denied or challenged. China also criticized some rightwing forces within Japan for distorting history and glorifying aggression, and linked this tendency to moves toward "remilitarization," saying that revisiting the historical background and principles of the Tokyo Trial has practical significance.
The spokesperson concluded by emphasizing that any attempt to whitewash aggression will not be accepted, and that the foundations of historical justice and the postwar international order should be jointly upheld.
