Study Notes: Charting a Path to Maritime Strength with Chinese Characteristics

This Xinhua learning note centers on "striving to develop the maritime sector" and reviews the longstanding attention General Secretary Xi Jinping has paid to the development of China’s oceanrelated endeavors, as well as the relevant arrangements China has made to advance the building of a maritime power. The article notes that from Fujian’s proposals of "Marine Fuzhou" and "Marine Fujian" to the repeated emphasis since the 18th CPC National Congress on developing the marine economy and building a maritime power, related work has continued to move forward. At the central level, sustained research and arrangements have also been made around building a maritime power and advancing highquality development of the marine economy. The article also introduces China’s progress in marine science and technology and ocean engineering equipment, including major equipment such as the Jiaolong, the Mengxiang, and the Shenhai No. 1, as well as the development of industries such as marine fisheries and offshore wind power. At the same time, the article emphasizes the importance of marine ecological protection, mangrove restoration, and the construction of a "blue granary," and states that China’s ocean development philosophy should uphold peace and winwin cooperation and promote the building of a maritime community with a shared future.
