Unilateral coercive measures harm international law and the interests of developing countries, and undermine humanitarian and economic security Support the immediate lifting of the relevant measures, and learn about China's latest statement in the UN General Assembly Third Committee
On October 1, Fu Cong, China’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, spoke on behalf of 28 likeminded countries in the Third Committee of the UN General Assembly, calling on the international community to oppose and curb unilateral coercive measures.
Fu Cong pointed out that unilateral coercive measures run counter to sovereign equality, interfere in other countries’ internal affairs, and are also inconsistent with the UN Charter and international law. He said such measures are continuing to have negative humanitarian, economic, and social impacts on developing countries and their peoples.
The statement also noted that unilateral coercive measures and related secondary sanctions and overcompliance may affect food, energy, and financial security, and hinder affected countries’ access to investment and technology, as well as cooperation in areas such as culture, sports, tourism, and transportation. The Chinese side also said it supports the ministerial declaration of the Group of 77 and China, and called on the relevant countries to immediately, unconditionally, and completely lift the relevant measures.
