According to IBM's latest report, 25% of malicious data breach incidents that occurred in 602 organizations worldwide from last March to this February were found to be attacks using artificial intelligence (AI). This is a 56% increase from the previous year, and the average damage from AIbased hacking was about $6 million, higher than the overall average.
The attacks were mainly concentrated in core infrastructure industries such as finance and energy. These sectors also had an average damage amount from data breach incidents that exceeded the overall average, and cases of intrusions targeting AI itself were also found to be increasing.
In South Korea as well, the proportion of AIbased cyberattacks was higher than the global average. According to IBM's analysis of 30 Korean companies, the share of AIbased attacks among domestic malicious intrusion incidents was 31%. The report pointed to the spread of deepfakes and AI malware, as well as the fact that defense systems are not keeping up with the speed of attacks, as the main reasons.
