Jeon Kyungcheol, who cared for his son with severe autism for 27 years, has passed away. He visited disability facilities across the country to find a place for his son, who would be left alone, but could not easily find a suitable one.
Since last year, Jeon had been sharing his story by writing about his daily life with his son, and support and attention from citizens continued to grow. His story was also published as a book, earning sympathy from many readers, and a facility that said it would take in his son also emerged.
Jeon wanted to create a space where people with severe autism who would be left alone could stay safely, and recently he also began working to establish a related foundation. However, he passed away on the 5th without ever seeing his goal fulfilled. The remaining task is to establish a system that allows people with severe disabilities who must live without family to remain with dignity.
