Internal backlash over the schedule for electing the People Power Party floor leader

Criticism is continuing within the People Power Party over the sudden announcement of the schedule for electing the floor leader. It has been pointed out that rushing the election before sufficient evaluation and internal reorganization after the crushing defeat in the June 3 local elections could work to the advantage of a particular candidate. "Alternative and Future," a group of reformminded lawmakers, raised concerns that the process of selecting the floor leader had not been sufficiently discussed. They argued that since the notice was issued on Friday afternoon and it would be difficult for lawmakers to communicate with one another over the weekend, democratic procedures and public discussion are necessary. In this floor leader election, lawmakers Kim Doeup, Jeong Jeomsik, and Seong Iljong have declared their candidacies. Within the party, the proYoon faction is reported to be backing lawmaker Jeong Jeomsik, while lawmaker Seong Iljong has publicly called for the schedule to be adjusted.
