President Lee Jaemyung has instructed the military authorities to conduct a swift and thorough investigation into the mine explosion accident that occurred in the DMZ on the western front. At the Cabinet meeting on the 29th, the president said that, based on close cooperation with the UN Command, the circumstances of the accident must be revealed transparently.
President Lee said that he would take necessary measures depending on the results of the investigation, while emphasizing that groundless conspiracy theories surrounding the accident must not shake national security. Regarding suspicions raised by the opposition over delays in the onsite investigation, the Blue House explained that it was unrelated to the UN General Assembly schedule and was based on a military judgment.
At the same meeting, President Lee also reiterated the stance of selfreliant national defense. He pointed out the significance of introducing the KF21 fighter jet and said that development and deployment of advanced weapons systems such as nuclearpowered submarines and hypersonic missiles should continue.
