People Power Party adjusts its response level as it boycotts some standing committees over Kim Seung-won's candidacy

People Power Party's boycott of standing committees spreads in protest against the forced confirmation hearing Public opinion campaign with a national report rally while adjusting the response level after Chuseok

On the 17th, the People Power Party boycotted some standing committees of the National Assembly in protest against the Democratic Party of Korea's move to force adoption of the hearing report on personnel appointments. It responded selectively by refusing to participate in meetings or by not taking part in votes in the Legislation and Judiciary Committee, the Land, Infrastructure and Transport Committee, and the National Defense Committee, among others. However, within the party, a cautious view is prevailing against expanding the response to a full boycott or street protests. The floor leadership believes that, considering personnel appointments and the National Assembly audit schedule after Chuseok, it should watch public opinion before deciding the level of response, and that directly questioning the nominees during the audit could be more effective. People Power Party leader Jang Donghyeok said that if the nominees' appointments are forced through, he would also consider street protests, but voices within the parliamentary caucus said that a hardline response before the Chuseok holiday is not realistic. The People Power Party plans to hold a public briefing event at the National Assembly on the 22nd to point out the government's failures.
