On the afternoon of September 12 local time, President Xi Jinping attended the first phase of the 18th BRICS Leaders' Meeting in New Delhi, India, and delivered a speech titled "Taking Shared Responsibility of Our Times and Courageously Acting as the Pioneering Force." Indian Prime Minister Modi chaired the meeting, which was attended by leaders and representatives from many countries.
In his speech, Xi Jinping reviewed the development of BRICS cooperation over the past 20 years, saying that the BRICS mechanism has become an important platform for cooperation among emerging markets and developing countries, and has played a role in addressing challenges such as the international financial crisis, the COVID19 pandemic, and climate change.
He pointed out that, amid complex and changing global circumstances, unilateralism and power politics are on the rise, and BRICS countries should continue to promote innovative development, safeguard peace and stability, promote exchanges and mutual learning among civilizations, and improve global governance, working together to advance a more just and reasonable international order. Xi Jinping also said that China will take over the BRICS chairmanship next year and is willing to work with all parties to jointly push BRICS cooperation to a new stage.
