The court has sentenced First Lady Kim Keonhee to seven years in prison at the trial court level in connection with allegations of “brokerage bribery” involving her. On the 26th, Criminal Division 21 of the Seoul Central District Court found all charges, including bribery mediation under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes, guilty.
The court determined that Ms. Kim had received various valuables in exchange for requests related to personnel appointments and nominations. As a result of the ruling, an artwork by artist Lee Uhwan, a luxury watch box, a gold turtle storage box, a Van Cleef & Arpels necklace, a Tiffany brooch, and a Dior bag were all subject to confiscation, and 64.8 million won was also forfeited.
For the codefendants, Seah Construction Chairman Lee Bonggwan, Seo Seongbin, and Pastor Choi Jaeyoung, suspended prison terms or fines were also handed down.
