China's tea industry accelerates the construction of a traceability system, creating a "digital ID" for tea
The traceability system for Guangxi Liubao Tea has gone online, with digital IDs covering full-chain tracking Helping tea products be verifiable and traceable, and improving quality trust and consumer transparency
Guangxi Wuzhou, July 4 — China's tea industry traceability system is being accelerated, with multiple famous teaproducing regions beginning to establish digital identifiers for tea that can be queried and traced. Wuzhou recently launched the Liubao tea traceability system and simultaneously went online with a traceability platform, marking one of the latest developments.
The Wuzhou Liubao tea traceability system covers links such as planting, processing, storage, logistics, and consumption, striving to ensure that every box of Liubao tea has an immutable, internetwide searchable "digital ID." The local government has also introduced a linkage mechanism involving tea garden codes, fresh tea broker codes, primary processing factory codes, SC tea enterprise codes, trading market codes, and tea warehouse codes, improving fullprocess traceability from tea gardens to tea cups.
The China Tea Marketing Association said that domestic tea traceability development is currently underway in many places, with examples such as Fuding white tea, West Lake Longjing, and Anhua dark tea all exploring their own digital traceability models. However, the industry generally still faces issues such as inconsistent standards, disconnected data, and incomplete systems. The association believes that Wuzhou's approach this time, with local government coordination and coverage of the entire industrial chain, provides a reference model for the standardization of tea industry traceability.
